Volume 3 Issue 8 - August 2007
Welcome to DestinationGreen!
In this issue, DestinationGreen highlights the new revisions to LEED-EB and the call out for public comment on the revisions. While the revisions are not perfect, they do accomplish some important things. All of you wanting to comment may do so by sending those comments to the USGBC by the end of August. We would also like to express our heartfelt congratulations to the Healthy Schools Campaign and all of the children and teachers of the Illinois School System on the passage of the new Green Clean Schools Act legislation.
Sales professionals take note as we begin a new series of Green Cleaning Tips - walking you through the process of Conducting Green Cleaning Educational, Customer-focused Seminars.
Finally, this busy month wraps up with our spotlight on the Green Group of the Month - Green Cleaning Network - and our launch of their website - located at www.greencleaningnetwork.org. We are confident in this dynamic Internet portal's ability to help building owners, facility managers, contract administrators, policy makers and others gather, share and discuss current green cleaning issues, standards and legislation.
As always, we encourage you to share your personal and professional strategies for “Going Green” with us for future columns. Submit them to editor@destinationgreen.com.

Ashkin Group E-Alert: LEED-EB Revision Open for Public Comments
After several years of work, the US Green Building Council has just opened its proposed revisions of LEED for Existing Buildings for public comment. This is especially important for a few reasons. First, LEED is without a doubt becoming the de facto national standard and interestingly enough, the revision comes as the Council just announced that its membership passed 10,000 organizations. And secondly, LEED will not be revised again for a couple of years. Thus this is our big chance and cleaning has clearly come out as one of the “winners”.

The law, which defines green cleaning simply as cleaning to protect health without harming the environment, requires schools to purchase environmentally sensitive cleaning products. It does not require schools to throw away existing supplies, and allows time for schools to order less toxic supplies in the next normal procurement cycle. Read more here.

"Warming Draws Evangelicals Into Environmentalist Fold" - Washington Post
An interesting article about a movement of "conversions" to envrionmentalism as a result of the overwhelming evidence in global warming. The efforts of a few are at least creating interesting debate and discussions between belief, political ideology and national borders. At DestinationGreen, we are all for anything that creates more dialog on climate change.
